There was a lighter entry of in lamb ewes and empty gimmer hoggs entered at Hawes, but a solid trade was achieved for the top end, in particular for Robbie Hallam, who took the pre-sale show championship with his 1st prize gimmer shearling. Sired by a Patrick Sowerby tup, Oakbank Hamlet, and in lamb to the Mark Ewbank tup, Intake D&D 7th, she sold for £2000 to John Tully, Burncroft Farm.
This was followed by Robbie’s second sheep into the ring, another gimmer shearling, this time sired by Ghyll House Jawbreaker, and in lamb to the same Ewbank tup, she sold for £1400 and joined the Champion at Burncroft Farm.
The day’s Reserve Champion from John Bland’s pen, from Mossdale, was his 2nd prize gimmer shearling, which also sold for £1400 to John Tully. She was sired by a Brian Thornborrow tup, and scanned twins to a Richard Harker tup. John also topped the trade for gimmer hogg’s, this time consigned from Thwaite Bridge, The hogg that stood 1st in the show, again sired by the Thornborrow tup, sold for £1200 to Ian Bell, Askrigg.
A highlight from the sale was that of the first lot into the ring, with proceeds from a gimmer hogg, consigned by the Late Neil Bland, raising £350 for MS Research, the hogg went home with Alan Alderson, Barras Farm.
