NSA North Sheep 2023
The much awaited bi-annual event, cancelled two years ago due to Covid restrictions, returned last Wednesday, at Bradford House Farm, Belsay, Northumberland. The Swaledale stand was kept very busy throughout the day, with visitors taking part in two competitions, the first, to guess the total sale value of the 5 tup shearlings pictured on the display stand, bred by J White, Rigg Farm, and sold at Kirkby Stephen, in 2021. The correct answer was £24,700 and was won by Rachel Tiplady, Red House Farm, Langleydale, Barnard Castle, she won a personalised bodywarmer.
The second competition, was to guess the combined weight of the 4 pens of sheep on display, 10 sheep in total, which included 4 lambs. The correct answer was 488kg, and was won by James Herdman, Edlingham Newtown, Alnwick, he won a bottle of Swaledale Gin.
Many thanks to Richard Pattinson, John Smith-Jackson, Michael Lee and Dick and Greg Dalton for providing the sheep on the day, and to members of D District who helped to ‘man’ the stand on the day.
